The process of aeration and overseeding begins by removing small plugs of turf, thatch and soil from your lawn. Then, after a detailed inspection, your TruGreen specialist spreads new seed over thinning areas of grass. Because aeration opens the soil, more nutrients, water and air reach your turf's roots and the new seed has an improved environment for growth.
Thatch is a layer of living and dead organic matter that occurs between the green matter and the soil surface. Excessive thatch (over 1/2 inch thick) creates a favorable environment for lawn damaging insects and disease, an unfavorable growing environment for grass roots, and can interfere with some lawn care practices.
After aeration and overseeding, excessive thatch breaks down more easily and your lawn will become thicker and more resistant to disease and insects than before. The small plugs left by aeration will decompose in a week or two, feeding nutrients back to your lawn's root system. And as new turf fills in, weeds are choked out, leaving you with a healthier, greener lawn.
